Conferences

During the period, 2001-2005, the FCN has planned and implemented four annual citywide health conferences on maternal, infant, child and/or family health issues for health care providers, community-based organizations, and consumers.

In 2004, the conference focused on home-visiting models and best practices.  For 2005, the conference is entitled, "Feeling the Strength of Our Own Spirit...Developing a Plan to Address Comprehensive Approaches to Perinatal and Family Health."

In addition, FCN has coordinated numerous conferences, through its partner agencies, on HIV/AIDS, breastfeeding, teen pregnancy prevention, prenatal care, sudden infant death syndrome prevention, and smoking cessation.

Training

In 2004-2005, it implemented a Professional Development Training Series for Executive and Program Directors on capacity-building, management and program development.  Training sessions included: high impact leadership development; agency sustainability and social purpose based ventures; program evaluation; cross cultural communication; and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders.

Infant Mortality Reduction Funding

For the past four years, FCN was instrumental in coordinating and advocating for Infant Mortality Reduction funding from the New York City Council and the Mayor for community-based organizations and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.  Over $20 million has been allocated with 53 percent of the funds being received by community-based organizations and 47 percent by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Communication

Currently, FCN is developing a citywide newsletter and web-site which would include information on: women's, infant, child and family health issues; partner and member agency programs and services contributions; legislative, policy, and advocacy updates; meeting, training sessions, and conferences; and local health planning issues.
